vueLogic Q and A
Describe vueLogic. vueLogic
is a print spooling utility that monitors a designated folder and processes
incoming print jobs.
Does vueLogic require a separate purchase
of AutoVue? No. vueLogic
embeds a full-function, no-interface version of AutoVue Electro-Mechanical Pro,
which is included in the purchase price.
Can I use my existing AutoVue license(s) with vueLogic? No.
We install and use a subset of the AutoVue technology which pertains to file handling only. As such, existing licenses cannot be
used. As well, our licensing agreement with Cimmetry requires that vueLogic-specific licenses be purchased. The cost is included
in the vueLogic price.
Can vueLogic run unattended? Yes.
In fact, vueLogic is meant to run unattended. It should be thought of
as a "set
it and forget it" kind of application.
Can vueLogic run as a Service? Yes.
One of the primary design concepts behind vueLogic is that it is meant
to be run as a Service.
How does vueLogic differ from
spoolLogic? Though both are quality products, vueLogic can process
more file formats, (view
the AutoVue format List), provides greater flexibility
through XML-based requests, is simpler to manage, and can consume less
resources. vueLogic can also be run multiple times on a single machine,
can be set to run on the same or separate processors while still maintaining
completely distinct processing parameters, resulting in savings in hardware
and administration costs. vueLogic embeds AutoVue Electro-Mechanical Pro from
Cimmetry Systems resulting in a tighter integration and faster processing.
Can I upgrade my copy of spoolLogic

the document processing engine: View
the AutoVue format list.
Does printLogic affect the user's machine? No.
printLogic is entirely server based. There are no client-installed components.
Can printLogic apply a metadata Banner
and Watermark (stamp)? Yes. Through a simple point-and-click
setup, printLogic can apply 10 kinds of metadata - Type, Name, Revision,
State, Policy, User, Filename, Owner, Time and Date, plus regular Text
- to 13 unique "zones" on
any page. Additionally, printLogic offers a "Program" parameter
which allows virtually any data stored in Matrix to be accessed as metadata.
Can I use more than one stamp? Yes.
printLogic provides the unique capability of creating, storing and simultaneously
using as many stamps as you like. You can create and use a completely
different stamp layout for each object Type, State or Format within your
database if you wish.
Can users modify or override the stamp? No.
Users have absolutely no control over the stamping process. This is intentional
so as to ensure compliance with Regulatory agencies.
Is printLogic secure? Yes.
Users cannot override or otherwise evade the rules established by the
Matrix Administrator.
How does printLogic handle Matrix security
(privileges)? printLogic uses its own parameters for printing
and stamping. These parameters act as an additional layer on top of your
existing security (privileges). In no way will printLogic override any
of your existing security.
How does printLogic integrate with Matrix? printLogic
installs and
maintains its own schema, which is completely non-invasive to your existing
schema and the AEF.
How many printers and/or print servers can printLogic
handle? printLogic can handle an unlimited (in theory) number
of printers and servers.
Can I have more than one copy of printLogic
running against the same database? Yes - you can have as many
as you like. Some parameters may be shared amongst the instances, but
most are unique to each. printLogic uses Matrix "Sites" to distinguish between
them.
Is printLogic available for Unix/Linux? The
administrator utility, printLogicAdmin and the spooling engine vueLogic
can only run on Windows machines. However, the user interface, which
is web based, is not platform dependent.
How long does printLogic take to
install and setup? A typical installation can be performed
in under an hour - usually, less than 30 minutes.

can be used in conjunction with Adlib Express to increase the number
of file formats handled.
View the
Myriad format list. | View
the AutoVue format list.
Does convertLogic affect the user's
machine? No. convertLogic is entirely server based.
What happens if the server crashes? convertLogic
is a Service. The administrator can determine how convertLogic starts
up. Usually, it is designated as "automatic" so that anytime
the server is restarted, convertLogic is also automatically restarted.
(Adlib Express is also a Service). (top)
Can users control the conversions? No.
Users have absolutely no control over the conversion process so admins
can ensure compliance with Regulatory agencies.
When a user initiates a conversion,
how soon can they return to work? Immediately. convertLogic
uses triggers and a sophisticated queuing system, all contained within
your Matrix database. Since triggers execute immediately, the user's
session is never locked. All conversions happen "behind the scenes" on
a server so the user is never interrupted.
Can convertLogic process files at
a specific State? Yes. convertLogic has the ability to
queue files based on as many as 6 triggers - checkin, revision, changevault,
changeowner, promote, and demote. Using the promote or demote trigger,
you can have convertLogic queue files for conversion when an object
is promoted to or demoted from any State.
Can convertLogic apply a metadata
Banner and Watermark (stamp)? Yes. convertLogic can apply
12 kinds of metadata - Type, Name, Revision, State, Policy, User, Filename,
Date, Time, Page, Pages and Program. Program is a special item that executes
a Matrix program and uses the returned data in the stamp.
Can I have more than one copy of
convertLogic running against the same database? Yes - you
can have as many as you like. Some parameters will be shared amongst
the instances, but most are unique to each. convertLogic uses Matrix "Sites" to
distinguish between them.
What versions of Matrix is convertLogic
compatible with? Because convertLogic is server/trigger
based, it can be used with any version (8 and newer) and any interface
- Thick, Power Web, CWI or RMI.
Is convertLogic available for
Unix/Linux? No. convertLogic and the conversion engine (Adlib
Express Server Pro) can only run on Windows machines (NT4, 2000, XP).
How long does convertLogic take
to install and setup? A typical installation can be performed
in under an hour - usually, less than 30 minutes.

editLogic Q and A
Describe editLogic. editLogic
is a fully functional programmer's editor that can connect directly to your
Matrix database to provide many Matrix specific functions in an easy-to-use,
fast interface. There are even features that Matrix doesn't provide.
Does editLogic provide Syntax Highlighting? Yes.
editLogic offers professional-level highlighting with 16 distinct categories
for colors.
What languages are supported for syntax
highlighting? Support for several languages is provided with
editLogic in the form of ASCII-text based files. The "standard" editLogic
languages are: HTML, Java / JavaScript, TCL / MQL, XML, Basic, C, Pascal, SQL,
and Perl. As well, you can easily create your own languages files, or use files
from UltraEdit.
What Matrix specific functions are provided? Since
editLogic is always being enhanced, this list may not be complete. We recommend
viewing or downloading the editLogic datasheet for details. However, some of
the functions are: create/modify programs, edit program code, list and modify
AEF symbolic name mapping, create / modify triggers, MQL test window, program
versioning and more.
Why should I use editLogic instead of
UltraEdit or MQL scripting? editLogic is designed to make writing
program code easier as well as many other Matrix specific functions. It allows
for many common Matrix activities to be handled through a single, intuitive
interface. A developer regularly using editLogic can easily save over an hour
of time each week or more just from the direct database access provided. Plus,
you only have one application to install, setup and learn. Most companies realize
their ROI within a month per user - some in as little as a week.
Does editLogic replace the Matrix applications/interfaces? No.
editLogic replicates and enhances some of the most common development functions
in one simple interface. While it is not a replacement for Matrix and Business,
you may find that the necessity for them decreases dramatically. This will
also help speed up productivity by keeping developers within a single application
for more of their time - less app switching means greater time savings. (top)
How does Versioning work? One
way editLogic leverages its direct database connection is Versioning. Through
editLogic, program code can easily be revised and stored within the database
in objects. We create our own schema components in Matrix (format, policy,
type, role) which handle the life of the programs. Versions (Revisions) are
handled either automatically (anytime a program is opened and saved for the
first time that session) or manually (revised by the user from within editLogic).
Program code, when saved, is written to file which is checked into the appropriate
Matrix object (based on the current revision). The current code is also stored
in the edited Admin Program object so that it can be used by the system. Previous
revisions cannot be edited directly - they can, however, be "made current" which
actually duplicates the object to a new revision, making it the current revision.
The code from the previous revision is opened into editLogic and is also copied
into the appropriate program object so that it is immediately available. Program
objects are automatically stored in the "eService Administration"
vault for easy backup, and/or export, and to keep them from regular Users.
Developers must be added to the editLogic Role to have access to the editLogic
objects.
What other utilities does editLogic include? In
addition to regular editing capabilities, editLogic includes an ASCII character
chart, a programming based color picker, recordable keystroke macros, date/time
stamping, favorite folders, search/replace in disk files, file type association,
and more.
